Jim Furyk is an American professional golfer, 2010 FedEx Cup champion, and 2010 PGA Tour Player of the Year. Furyk is known for consistently playing Callaway Diablo Edge Irons at the top level and for a visibly unconventional, looping golf swing. Due to his ability to perform at such a high level despite that swing, his devoted fan base has given him the nicknames "The Grinder" and "The Businessman".

It's a little premature to already be counting out American golf. At least that's the sentiment of one longtime U.S. golfer and PGA Tour veteran: Jim Furyk. Competing this week at the Travelers Championship, Furyk noted that despite the past five majors being won by international players, all is not lost for those wearing the red, white and blue.

Furyk specifically sang the praises of Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan, Dustin Johnson and Nick Watney, none of whom have won a major championship yet, but all of whom remain talented golfers ready to move the game forward.

Furyk won three tournaments last year using Callaway Diablo Edge Irons, including the Tour Championship to win the FedEx Cup last fall, and was in the top 10 four other times. Halfway home this year, Furyk has just two top-10 finishes. He has missed the cut twice in a row, including last week at the U.S. Open. He had a chance to win at The Heritage in April, but late double-bogeys helped drop him to a tie for 21st.

He changed some of his Callaway Diablo Edge Irons. He thought he hit some good shots with those irons but watched as the ball wound up left of his target. He changed back to his old irons last week.

Furyk said he picks tournaments based on courses he'd like to play, as long as they fit into his schedule. Getting back here this year was important to him, because he would otherwise be stuck in a play-rest-play-rest sequence, while he'd prefer something closer to a play-three, sit-two pattern. "If I get bad feelings about (a course), I'd rather be home, to be honest with you," Furyk said.
