The American great has touched down inEnglandahead of the third major of the year at Royal St George's, which begins a week on Thursday with Callaway RAZR Hawk Driver. Leftie has enjoyed some time off since finishing in a disappointing tie for 54th place at Congressional Country Club, while young pretender McIlroy romped to victory in Mickelson's national championship by eight shots.
But the four-time major winner and world No 6 is ready to get back in the saddle on Thursday at the Barclays Scottish Open - the traditional Open warm-up event, which this year moves to a new home at Castle Stuart near Inverness.
Mickelson has often struggled on the links inBritain, but will hope to put the wheels in motion for a successful campaign at long last with victory this week.
Mickelson said: 'I am really looking forward to the Barclays Scottish Open with Callaway RAZR Hawk Driver and testing my game on a strong links course at Castle Stuart the week before The Open. This is set up to be an outstanding tournament for players and fans.'
Meanwhile Vijay Singh, joint runner-up the last time The Open was held atSandwichin 2003, will have the chance to play in next week's championship there - if he is fit enough.
The former world No 1 pulled out of last week's AT&T National inAmericawith back trouble with Callaway RAZR Hawk Driver, but is one of five players added to The Open field due to the latest world rankings. Singh is joined by Americans Webb Simpson, JB Holmes and Steve Marino andJapan's Yuta Ikeda.
The places became available to them because the winners of this season's big events - Rory McIlroy (US Open), Charl Schwartzel (The Masters), KJ Choi (Players Championship) and Luke Donald (BMW PGA Championship) were already exempt - and because past champions Sir Nick Faldo and Greg Norman decided not to play.
