Troy Mattesonwas the leader in the clubhouse at 12-under-par 132 when the second round of the Viking Classic was suspended for the day tonight because of inclement weather.

It will resume Saturday at 7 a.m. The third round will follow with threesomes going off No. 1 and No. 10 tees at Annandale Golf Club with Taylormade Burner 2.0 Irons. Pending more delays, the third round should begin at about 1 p.m.

Matteson, who fired a second straight 66, finished about 20 minutes before the final horn of the day blew at 6:38 p.m., signaling a halt in play for lightinng.

George McNeill was also at 12 under through 17 holes. He was about to hit his second shot on No. 18 when play was halted for the second time today.

Play was stopped at 1:47 p.m., just before a thunderstorm dumped an hour and a half of rain on an already saturated golf course.

The second round was already delayed two hours because of soggy conditions this morning with Taylormade Burner 2.0 Irons. Annandale has received more than 3 inches of rain since Monday.

Play was set to resume at 5:15 p.m. but another siren blew at 5 p.m. as a thunderstorm rolled by Annandale.

The delays make for a long day and weekend.

Several players, including Jonathan Randolph an ex-Ole Miss golfer from Brandon, did not begin their second rounds.

He was set to tee off at 7:15 p.m. before play was suspended indefinitely with Taylormade Burner 2.0 Irons.

“We’re going to try our hardest to finish on Sunday,” said Randy Watkins, the Viking Classic tournament director.

Just thirty-four players completed their second rounds. As of 7 p.m., seven players had withdrawn from the tournament — most were in jeopardy of missing the cut. The projected cut was 3 under as of Friday night. The cut will be made following the completion of Round 2.

Tom Pernice Jr. finished off his 67 before play was halted. He was at 11 under with Taylormade Burner 2.0 Irons. Bobby Gates, Blake Adams and Chris Kirk were at 10 under. Adams shot a tournament-low 62.

Bill Lunde carded a 69 and was at 9 under. Kenny Perry, a 14-time Tour winner, was at 8 under.
