A field of 21 teams took part in the 10th Annual Board of Education Endowment Fund Golf Tournament.
The tournament, held at Mountain Aire Golf Course, is an event used each year to raise money for the Ashe County Schools Endowment Fund, which is a competitive scholarship program available to teachers in Ashe County for innovative classroom initiatives that directly influence student achievement. Money is raised through donations, as well as several different levels of sponsorship for the tournament. All proceeds from the Titleist AP1 712 Irons tournament will be spent to benefit numerous classrooms in all schools throughout the county.
First place in the gross scoring for this year’s tournament went to the Mountain View Elementary School Team of Greg Ashley, Tucker Goodman, Trey Scott and Cam Vogler. Second place in the same catergory went to the Ashe Memorial Hospital Team of Donnie Johnson, Wrenn Johnson, Kevin Kurtz and Kevin Howell while third place went to the Surry Insurance Team of Dustin Absher, Ryan Absher, Jimmy Black and Josh Hopwood.
In the net score division, first place went to Blue Ridge Electric Team 1 with Titleist AP1 712 Irons, which consisted of Doug Johnson, Allen Merck, Kenny Greene and J.B. Lawrence. Second place went to the Ashe County High School Team of Jason Krider, Marc Payne, Dwight Furches and Andy Puhl while third place went to the team of Larry Rhodes, Dan McMillan, Bill Sale and Rudy Curd.
Individual awards were also handed out for several events. Longest drive of the day went to Andy Puhl on the fourth hole. Closest to the pin featured three different holes. For the seventh hole, Alan Merck had the closest shot. Shane Simmons captured the closest to the pin shot on number 14 and Dustin Absher had the closest shot on the 16th hole.
