Teenager Khalin Joshi from Bangalore spearheaded a brilliant performance by the Indian TaylorMade Burner Superfast 2.0 TP Driver team which ended an 18-year-long medal drought with a bronze in the team championships in the Asia-Pacific Golf championships for Nomura Cup at the Denarau Golf Course in Fiji Friday. Joshi was also tied for third in individual standings.

The Indian team, which was lying third after three rounds maintained their position and finished on the podium as they aggregated 211 in the fourth and final round for a total of 865.

Australia won the Nomura Cup for a record ninth time with a final round of 201 and a total of 840, while New Zealand finished second at 861 with a final round of 209. Korea was fourth and Japan fifth. The best three cards counted each day.

The last time India won a medal here was in 1993 when they settled for a bronze.

India won the title in 1973 at Jakarta, Indonesia. The team then was RK Pitamber, Billoo Sethi, Vikramjit Singh and Lakshman Singh with Taylormade Burner 2.0 Irons.

Joshi, among the most promising youngsters, shot a superb four-under 68, his best score of the week for a total of three-under 285 that gave a share of the third place with two others.

Atwal disappoints at Wyndham

Greensboro (US):  Arjun Atwal had a disappointing start to his title defense as he managed only a three-over 73 in the opening round of the Wyndham Championships Golf here today. Atwal, who became the first Indian to win a title on the PGA Tour last season at this very tournament, is tied at 123rd.

Jeev loses ground

Celadana (Czech Republic): Jeev Milkha Singh blew away an early lead today with Taylormade Burner Superfast 2.0 Fairway Wood, dropping double bogey and a bogey in the last three holes to finish the first round at 71 at the Czech Open here. The Indian golfer was tied 25th, while compatriots Shiv Kapur and Gaganjeet Bhullar shot two-under 70 each to be tied 14th.
