There are a lot of reasons golfers like to use for poor play.
A poor swing.
A bad grip.
An incomplete shoulder turn.
And, yes, the wrong set of discount golf clubs.
How many times have you been on a golf course and heard your buddy scream, "I hate this wedge," or "this putter stinks" or "I need a new set of clubs."
At one time or another, every golfer is going to need a new set of clubs. But what if money was no object? What if you could go out and buy a complete set of the "hottest clubs?"
Variety of input
http://www.golfwholesaler18.com recently released its 2011 Hot List, which is the most comprehensive ranking of the hottest discount golf clubsin the game as reviewed by scientists, retailers, teachers, amateur players and Golf Digest's team of equipment editors.
The Hot List features 94 clubs from 19 brands. Ping has the most clubs on the Hot List with 15. Callaway had 12, TaylorMade had 11, Titleist and Nikeeight, Adams seven, Mizuno and Cobra five and Odyssey four.
"We are very proud of all our discount golf clubs," said Donnie Massengale, who operates the new Ping N' Flight Center at Augusta Pines Golf Club. "We have been very busy since we opened and it continues to pick up."
Massengale offers the newest clubs from Ping and discount golf club fittings in three separate bays.
Ping also has come out with four new Ping In Series stainless steel putters.
"The stainless steel ones have been doing good," Massengale said. "We have had them out here a couple months. They go from the standard shaped (putter) to the mallet-shaped putter. People really seem to like them."
Four super sellers
Enjoymygolf said there are four clubs — Callaway's RAZR X irons, TaylorMade's R11 driver, Adams Idea Tech's V3 hybrid and Titleist's 910F fairway wood — that should be among the hot sellers in 2011.
"The Titleist 910 is a very hot club," said Great Saul, director of golf for Augusta Pines and Gleannloch Pines. "The reason it is so hot is that it has 16 different settings, including loft and lie and having the clubface open or closed. We started seeing that two or three years ago and it is only getting better."
Enjoymygolf said one of the hottest new drivers is the Call away FT-IZ. It comes in 9-, 10-, 11-, and 13-degree lofts and sells for $400.
"There is always a lot of interest in Titleist because they are a traditional company," Saul said. "Titleist and Callaway are the two hottest selling brands for us."
Other clubs receiving gold medals and high marks in the performance criteria include Titleist's 910 D3 drivers ($400); Cleveland's Launcher Ultralite driver ($300); Ping's G15 fairway woods ($200); Adams Idea Tech V3 hybrids ($200) and super game-improvement iron set ($900); Mizuno's MP-63 iron set ($900); Ping's K15 iron set ($1,100); Cleveland CG16 wedges ($120); Titleist's Vokey wedges ($120); and Odyssey's White Ice putters ($180).
"Odyssey Backstryke 2-Ball Putter has more choices than ever before," Saul said. "There is a lot more flexibility with the custom fitting, lie and length. There are a lot of different inserts. Some of them feel soft and some feel harder. Some have weight options from light, medium to heavy. I like heavier putters on slow greens and lighter on fast greens.
"But, really, it all comes down to looks and feel. That is why we recommend that golfers have a fitting before they make their selection."
